Hilux vs Ranger: Best-selling bakkies in SA - June 2016

Pretoria - South African vehicle sales declined by 10.6% to 44 939 units in June 2016, reports  the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa). 

Drop in sales

Naamsa reports a total of 44 939 new vehicle sales, a decline of 5 311 vehicles or a fall of 10.6% compared to the 50 250 vehicles sold in June 2015.

At the half way mark in 2016, light commercial vehicles were down 8.9%, medium commercials were down by 19% whilst heavy trucks and buses were down 4.4%.

Toyota's new Hilux remains king of the local bakkies in June (3072 units sold), though the gap to second-placed Ford Ranger (2848) is only 224 units. Nissan's NP200 climbed two places to claim third, with 1076 units sold.

The new Fiat Fullback, launched in June 2016, has already made the top 10 list with 70 Italian bakkies sold.
