And they’re off! Odyssey begins

PRETORIA, South Africa – After intense preparation and training period, the 2013 Ford Ranger Odyssey has begun as ten locals embark on a challenging 21-day adventure through six countries and 8000km.

The 10 contestants began their journey at a remote a military base near Nairobi on June 23 2013 as Ford handed over the keys to their Ranger bakkies.

'MORE TO COME'

Ford SA marketing manager Gavin Golightly said: “The Ranger Odyssey has been enthusiastically embraced by Ford in Kenya and the team has been blown away by the astonishing level of support and interest from the people of Nairobi. From the media scrum that surrounded their arrival to the hosting of a special two-day event for local customers and staff, the excitement has already far exceeded our expectations. And there's lots more to come.”

Several projects are included in the itinerary as the group will support communities along the way.

Contestants are being evaluated on driving, team work, participation, fitness and endurance and special tasks as they compete for the main prize – a Ford Ranger.
