DETROIT, Michigan — Workers at Chrysler’s North Assembly Plant in Detroit cheered as the automaker’s five-millionth Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled off the production lines.
That's huge for a factory once at risk of closure when Fiat took over Chrysler in 2009.
CHARITY DONATION
Chrysler's vice-president of manufacturing told people at the plant: “The fact that we’re even standing here says a lot. You guys have stayed focused through the tough times. Our challenge now is to keep that focus and keep this vehicle at the top of the industry.”
The silver five-millionth Grand Cherokee will be donated to the United Service Organisation, a non-profit organisation that provides services and live entertainment to the US armed services and their families around the world.
