This vehicle tracking company promises you up to R1-million if your new Toyota gets stolen

Vehicle tracking specialists Cartrack has launched an industry-first "R1-million Limited Recovery Warranty" in SA. The catch? It's reserved for Toyotas purchased from its affiliated dealers.

Cartrack South Africa CEO, Harry Louw, said: "We are so confident in our industry-leading recovery rate, that we are more than willing to put this amount of skin in the game.

"Cartrack is the only telematics company that can boast an audited 92% recovery rate across the board, as well as a world class recovery team dedicated to getting our clients’ vehicles back to the rightful owner.

"In addition to this world-first recovery warranty, the device we will install in the newly purchased Toyota is new-generation technology that makes use of advanced communication platforms to track vehicles in real time. The unit also provides a range of telematics information that customers can use to improve their on-road safety and security."

How it works:

The R1-million Recovery Warranty will be available for all Toyotas bought between September 1 and 31 December 2019 at any Toyota dealer, and will be valid for the duration of the standard Cartrack contract.

The R1-million recovery warranty is applicable to any newly purchased Toyota from one of our affiliated Toyota dealers.

According to Louw, in the event that the vehicle is stolen or hijacked, if Cartrack is unable to recover it then the limited recovery warranty applies.

Louw said: "The Recovery Warranty will pay out the book value of your Toyota limited to a maximum value of R1 Million. The book value of the vehicle is computed as the average of the trade and retail value of your Toyota as per the Transunion Auto Dealers Guide as at the month of the theft."

Vehicle theft trends

Due to sophisticated and organised vehicle crime syndicates, incident rates of theft and hijacking remain at extremely high levels.

Public parking areas are considered to be high-risk areas - this includes shopping centres, hospitals, gyms, places of worship and major sporting or entertainment events where secure parking areas often overflow.

A notable trend to be mindful of is thieves using jamming devices to prevent you from locking your car.

Other trends to be aware of include criminals posing as law enforcement officers and stopping vehicles. Beware of a vehicle bumping you from behind – this could be a mock vehicle collision aimed at getting you to stop and get out.

Thieves can also try and get you to stop and get out of your vehicle by driving next to you and pointing towards a wheel, indicating that your tyre is damaged. Only stop to check this at a place of safety.

Watch function

A "Watch function" helps keep a virtual eye on the vehicle, making the vehicle’s safety and security of paramount importance. Once parked and switched off, the vehicle owner activates the CarWatch function using the Cartrack App.

If the vehicle is moved while CarWatch is in guard mode, the owner will receive an alert and can take the appropriate action to report the loss to Cartrack.

Louw said: "As the first vehicle recovery company to offer a recovery warranty, we’ve come to understand exactly what this level of assurance means for our clients. They know they will get their vehicle back, or the financial means to purchase a new one.

"This offer is a commitment to our service excellence in recoveries, and an even greater reason to believe that we have our clients, and our partners’ clients’ safety and security at heart by providing intelligent mobility at every turn."
