Taxis, dodgy cops and 'drunk goggles': Top 10 SA car clips of 2015

Cape Town - Earlier in December, Wheels24 published our top stories of 2015 and the most popular videos of the year.

We've localised our latest list by highlighting the 10 most popular South African videos of 2015.

Top 10 clips

It's no surprise that driver Clive Naidoo's altercation with a Johannesburg metro cop is our most viewed clip of 2015. The second most popular video shows an SA road user putting an end to a law-breaking taxi driver in Durban.

Our list of top SA videos includes a rally crash involving local motorsport legend and Dakar Rally winner Giniel de Villiers and a bizarre shunt involving two Mercedes-Benz professional drivers during a demonstration at the Zwartkops race track in Gauteng.

Another video highlight includes asking locals to guess the price of a stunning (read: expensive) McLaren 650S in Cape Town. Their estimates proved rather interesting...

Here are the most 10 most watched SA videos on Wheels24 for 2015:

1. Good cop, bad cop: SA traffic video goes viral

'You got four eyes, can’t you see you shot the robot?'... Driver Clive Naidoo uploaded a video showing an altercation with a Johannesburg Metro Police officer. Watch the drama unfold below:

2. Driver gives law-breaking taxi a reality check in SA

A Durban driver takes a stand against a law-breaking taxi, and wins. A video shows a taxi driver swerving his vehicle into oncoming traffic to overtake gridlocked cars. The taxi driver most likely assumed the oncoming driver would move out of his way. Instead, the driver forces the taxi to reverse all the way back down the road.

3. SA rally ace Giniel rolls car in dramatic crash

Motorsport veteran Giniel de Villiers and co-driver Carolyn Swann, chasing the Ford Fiesta of rally leader Mark Cronje/Gerhard Snyman, rolled their Toyota Yaris in spectacular fashion during Stage 10 of the Dealer Cape Rally. Fortunately the pair escaped unharmed.

8. 'Drunk goggles' - a sobering experience

Many people, especially those who have sat behind the wheel of a car intoxicated, are fully aware of the dangers of doing so. What if you could simulate drunk driving? MasterDrive brand manager, Penny Wagner, brought along "impairment goggles" to the News24 offices in October 2015 to show us what it's like to drive while drunk but without actually consuming alcohol.

9. Rosebank hijack: Watch the police chase

Police arrested three hijackers following a car chase and shootout with police in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The incredible video was captured by dashcam and shows the high-speed chase through Johannesburg's northern suburbs.

10. Driver flung from bakkie in horror Jozi crash

A crash was captured on CCTV showing a bakkie and a taxi colliding in Johannesburg's West Rand. The taxi can be seen skipping a traffic light and smashing into the pick-up. The driver of the bakkie was flung out of his vehicle.
