Germany - Embattled automaker Volkswagen scaled back its estimate of the number of cars affected by an emissions cheating scandal, but gave no specific figures.
The group had previously admitted that about 11 million of its diesel engines were rigged to cheat tests for nitrogen oxide, while some 800 000 cars with other engines were sold with false carbon-dioxide emission labels.
A spokesman told dpa-AFX the latter number was declining further each day, without specifying by how much.
The company admitted in September that most of its diesel cars sold in the US market had deceptive software that allowed them to pass emissions tests.
VW's sales have taken a hit and the Standard & Poor's credit rating agency recently downgraded the company's creditworthiness from A- to BBB+.
