Booming used car market, licence extensions: Here are this week's top motoring stories

accreditation

• Licences expired during lockdown has 90 days extension

• Vehicle sales numbers in May are low, but will grow

• Consumers are eager to buy new cars

Car sales are back in full swing, and even though the economy is in crisis, there's some hope knowing consumers still want to buy new vehicles.

However, while new models are sparking interest in the public, its the used car market which is about to explode. According to Autotrader data, South Africans spent R4.8-billion on second-hand vehicles during May. The vehicle sales platform also noted that there had been a significant spike in used car searched since lockdown began in March.

And while the automotive industry begins to pick up the pieces slowly, this week's top stories indicate that consumers and motorists are quite keen to know which cars are doing well in the market, what's new on offer, and if there are any new trends.

However, there has been much confusion about this and Wheels24 editor Janine Van der Post tries to clarify what the new grace period means in this week's edition of Driving with J9.
