VW: 2013 was Year of the Golf

WOLFSBURG, Germany – The VW Golf success story continues in 2013 having already scooped several awards including 2013 European and World Car of the Year 2013.

Wheels24 reported that the Golf won the 2013 Japanese Car of the Year, the first foreign vehicle to get the country’s top vehicle accolade. Other awards include the 2013 Golden Steering Wheel, Auto Trophy, Auto der Vernunft (Car of Reason) and  Best cars of 2013.

The 500 000th seventh-generation Golf will be delivered in December 2013, one year after the car was launched. The European best-seller has yet to make its debut in China and the USA. In June 2013, Volkswagen celebrated its 30 millionth Golf.

NEW ADDITIONS

VW will expand its Golf line-up with the addition of an Estate, Sportsvan, e-Golf and plug-in hybrid.

CEO Martin  Winterkorn said: “The Golf will remain the most important model and a powerful engine for the brand. We are delighted the Golf has got off to such a brilliant start and is enjoying such a positive reception from customers.

"That is first and foremost due to a committed team. Our people very definitely went the extra mile for the Golf and have done a great job."
