Toyota not recalling SA cars

accreditation

Toyota South Africa spokesperson Roger Houghton told Wheels24 that the recall doesn't include any South African models.

The recall affects cars in Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

Models in the recall include Toyota's popular Corolla sedans and Vitz compact models. All vehicles involved were produced between May 2000 and September 2002.

An electrical defect could cause the headlights to fail.

According to Toyota SA this defect does not appear in South African built Corollas and there is no reason for concern.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the recall by Toyota Motor Corp, covering 1.27 million vehicles from 17 car models, would set Toyota back about US$127m, based on an estimated repair price of $100 per car.
