Johannesburg - Limpopo's Aganang municipality has denied it was wrong to buy a R490 000 Audi Q5 for its 'speaker'.
Municipal spokeswoman Disree Manyane said: "All the necessary procedures were followed. The council took a resolution to buy the car. All proper channels were followed."
The Democratic Alliance, however, says luxury 4x4 bought without council approval.
SHIFTED PRIORITIES
DA provincial leader Jacques Smalle said: "There is an enormous backlog of service delivery in the municipality. The council was not notified about the purchase and the tender was not even advertised, a clear violation of Municipal Finance Management Act)regulations."
Neither had there been a written quotation stipulating the conditions of the purchase.
Manyane disputed this, repeating that a resolution was taken in a council meeting at the beginning of 2013.
She asserted that the purchase was made in compliance with an SA Local Government Association circular on determining the upper limits of salaries, benefits and allowances for councillors.
