Topless drivers polled

To go topless or not? A survey conducted by Audi showed that most owners of the German automaker's cabriolet models are reluctant to drop their cars' soft-tops.

British drivers polled revealed that more than half (64%) rarely drive with the roof down - would the same apply to drop-top drivers in South Africa?.

WHY NOT DROP THE TOP?

The surprising results out of the UK showed almost half of the owners polled (46%) cited a cabriolet's looks rather than the "wind-in-your-hair" driving as their primary reason for choosing a soft top.

The survey showed female owners were more likely than men to drive in the open air with 39% of female respondents stating they regularly drove with the roof down.

Only 32% of males claimed they prefer to drive with the roof down and 27% claimed they never dropped their roof.

Respondents aged between 25 and 34 were more likely to brave the elements with the roof down.

Audi UK Director Martin Sander said: “Our owners want the choice. Drivers like to know they can drop their roof. They also know that even with the roof up, a soft top car still looks out of the ordinary and highly desirable.”
