Three for court over taxi fight

Three men are appearing in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court today (Feb 13) in connection with a "road rage" incident in the town.

The three handed themselves to the police and were released on R1000 bail each.

Ernest Hartzenberg, 23, Mossie Moss, 40, and Johnny van Eeden, 22, face charges of common assault and assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm.

RECKLESS DRIVING CLAIM

They allegedly attacked passengers in a minibus taxi and fired a paintball gun at them on February 9 2013.

The mnibus driver had apparently been driving recklessly so one of the three accused, driving in a car, forced him to a halt. The two drivers got out and started arguing. The car's driver called for help and his two co-accused arrived.

"When his back-up arrived there was a fight between the group and the taxi passengers," a police spokesperson said.

The three men have laid counter-charges of malicious damage to property and indecent assault.
