Spy photographers have captured BMW’s second-generation X1 in action and say it uses the same front-wheel drive platform as that used for the 2 Series Active Tourer.
The entire body, despite the camouflage, seems to be complete and it’s going to be well within the new design style BMW has adopted. The headlights will be united with the kidney grilles and the tail lights employ a new curved design.
The cabin layout is expected to be similar to that of the 2 Series Active Tourer.
NEW ENGINE FAMILY
Yes, the new X1 will be front-wheel drive, but the automaker’s 4X4 xDrive will be available.
Its new platform also heralds a new family of engines - those used in the current Minis which range from 1.5 three-cylinder petrol and diesel units to two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged alternatives.
A plug-in hybrid is also said to be in the works.
Expect the new BMW X1 to be revealed in late 2015 or early 2016.
