Special GTI show: Hot concepts and a shed

LONDON, England - Two top VW concept cars from Germany will be among the major attractions at the 2015 GTI International, Britain’s longest-running and most successful annual event for fans of the Golf GTI and other related high-performance VW Group cars, claims the automaker.

GTI International will this year again be staged at the Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-upon-Avon, over July 4-5 2015.

Star attractions will be the 305km/hh Golf R 400, with 294kW/450Nm – plus, VW says, "the looks to match its huge performance". There's also be the XL Sport two-seater sports car powered by a 147kW Ducati Superleggera V2 engine and capable of 270km/h.

MOBILE VW SHED

Both cars will be on display in the main Show ’n Shine and Concours area which attracts hundreds of the best-kept VW's in Britain and Europe, from original and restored concours classics to highly modified and customised cars.

Or, of course, you could check out the V6, road-legal VW Shed... yes, an all-wheel drive wooden shed (see gallery!).

Another focus of attention will be the quarter-mile (400m) sprint track where visitors to the event can test the acceleration of their car against the clock on a real drag strip with world-class timing, watched by the crowd in a 3000-seat stand.

TRADE STANDS, TOO

The strip will also witness demo runs from many of the country’s top tuning companies, as well as members of the VW Drag Racing Club. Returning this year and planning to break his own record will be Paul Jordan with his all-wheel-drive Scirocco 20VT that in 2014 covered the quarter in 9.021sec with a terminal speed of 240km/h.

The club display area will be crammed with all the country’s top VW clubs and there will also be a wide range of trade stands, cars for sale, an auto jumble, Monster-truck rides and a funfair.
