Senna's NSX for Silverstone auction

LONDON, England - A 1992 Honda NSX owned by legendary three-times Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna will be auctioned at a retro 'race & classic' sale at Silverstone racetrack in February 2014.

The car was originally bought by Antonio Carlos de Almeida Braga, a close personal friend, manager and mentor of Senna, for the driver to use when he visited his home in Portugal.

Then Senna was killed at Imola in 1994. The NSX was locked in the garage at Braga’s home and nobody was allowed to touch or drive it but, after two years of imprisonment, it was sold and then sold again to the current owner in about 1997.

BLACK CAR, BLACK LEATHER

Nick Whale, MD of Silverstone Auctions, told Wheels24: “Very rarely does a car with such pedigree and provenance come to market, especially with such a powerful and personal link to arguably the greatest F1 driver of all time.”

The car, in black with a black leather interior, manual gearbox and 50 000km on its odo, is being offered with an estimate of about R1.44-million.

When choosing the car Braga made sure it was set to the same specification that Senna chose for his own NSX and is regarded as the ultimate combination for the car.

2014 will see the 20th anniversary of Senna's death and 2015 the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the NSX.
