Schumi out of coma, in Swiss hospital

PARIS, France - Formula 1 multiple champion Michael Schumacher is apparently out of his coma and has left the French hospital where he has been since December 2013.

Schumacher, it has emerged, has been taken to a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, for further rehabilitation from where spokesperson Darcy Christen told AFP by email: "Mr Schumacher was admitted to the University Hospital of Lausanne this morning."

He sustained severe head injuries in a skiing accident.

'NO LONGER IN A COMA'

Schumacher's spokesperson Sabine Kehm said on Monday (June 16 2014): "Michael has left the CHU Grenoble hospital to continue his long phase of rehabilitation.

"He is not in a coma anymore."

The German, who won a record 91 GP's and left motor racing in 2013 after a disappointing three-year comeback, slammed his head on to a rock while skiing off-piste in the French Alps resort of Meribel on December 29 2013.

The brief statement said of Schumacher, who turned 45 earlier in 2014, added: "For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye."
