After six years in the market and with major competitors like the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Peugeot 308 having introduced newer models, Renault's current, third-generation Megane is approaching the end of its road.
The fourth-generation Megane is expected to be launched later in 2015. Spy photographers spotted the new hatchback undergoing hot-weather testing in Spain.
As seen on its new Clio and Captur, the new Megane will continue Renault's new design language. Underneath a heavily disguised body hides a new platform, the same one used by Nissan on its crossover SUVs and the Pulsar.

Judging by its exhaust, the Megane spotted in spy images is likely powered by a 1.2 TCe small turbo unit, which both Nissan and Renault offer for a variety of models. The other mainstay of the new Megane's engine range will be the 1.6 litre petrol.
Renault already has a 97kW version but its twin-turbo 120kW unit should trickle down to smaller cars.
