Kerr has until now been responsible for Volvo's operations in the southern hemisphere, the Middle East and eastern Europe from his base in Brussels.
His new post means he will be looking after the company's interests in the UK, Ireland and - would you believe - Iceland.
Kerr replaces Hugh Reid who has decided to leave the company. He joined Volvo in Pretoria in 1995. He will be relocating to the UK.
"With the UK market being one of the largest in the world, success there is vital for Volvo and I am looking forward to taking the company through an exciting period of growth over the coming busy and important years," says Kerr.
"With all the latest models in the Volvo range, and new cars such as the C30 and others in the pipeline, Volvo is in a really strong position to face the competitive market conditions ahead."
