Sports cars in SA: Ford & Porsche battle for supremacy

Cape Town - The Ford Mustang has taken an early lead as the best-selling sports car in South Africa so far in 2018 however Porsche is in hot pursuit. Ford's popular Mustang has found 171 new homes so far in 2018, according to Naamsa sales.

The Porsche 911 sold 50 fewer units (121 units so far). Both Porsche and Ford are the only automakers to achieve triple-digit sales during the first quarter of 2018.

Strong sales

The Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman narrowly missed out on the 60-unit-mark after registering 59 units sold but comprehensively outsold the Jaguar F-Type in fourth place (32 units).

Ferrari’s 488 Spider sits pretty in fifth place on 12 units, just ahead of its big brother, the 812 SuperFast on 11 units.

Nissan’s formidable GT-R found nine new owners, followed by the Ferrari 488 GTB (eight units) in eighth place. The Lexus LC 500 sold seven units to grand ninth, one ahead of BMW’s electric sports car, the i8 (six units).
