The Toyoya Hilux is undoubtedly the most-loved vehicle in South Africa. It's evident every single month when we look at the Naamsa sales report.
During October, the automaker sold a whopping 4377 units, more than 2000 units clear of its closet rival, the Ford Ranger.
We asked readers what makes the Hilux such a popular bakkie for South Africans and one response sums it all up.

Swanepoel says: "Dealers offer big discounts on the Hilux list price, so Toyota is always good value for money. It also has a good trade-in value, because it is dependable and durable, and the Hilux parts basket is affordable.
"Most car brands in South Africa are not of good quality, they are over-priced and it does not last. In a strained economy people want a vehicle at a affordable price and something they can use for 350 000km or more without any trouble or high maintenance costs.
"At this stage, Toyota is the closest to that.
"Toyota bakkies are also 'hard' in terms of durability, and has a firm frame, so they don't dent easily. Nissan,in my opinion, is flimsy and not of the build quality and longevity their former models used to be. Ford is also not as reliable as Toyota and both these brands have a much smaller dealer footprint - especially in the rural areas.
