Mazda South Africa recorded 1281 sales during August 2018, we break down which models proved popular among local car buyers.

Locally, the automaker offers five models of passenger cars - Mazda 2, Mazda 3, CX-3, CX-5 and the MX-5 RF.

On the light commercial vehicle side, the BT-50 bakkie is the only model in the Japanese automaker's portfolio.

It's no surprise that the best-selling cars in its stable are SUVs, with the CX-5 and CX-3 selling 448 and 338 units respectively.

The Mazda 3 (C-segment) and 2 (B-segment) were the only other cars to sell in triple digits, with the former selling 277 units and the smaller 2 finding 217 new homes.

The solitary MX-5 RF found a home in SA and Mazda sold 21 units of its BT-50 bakkie.
