SEE: SUVs prove popular - here's how Mazda SA fared in August car sales charts

Mazda South Africa recorded 1281 sales during August 2018, we break down which models proved popular among local car buyers.

Locally, the automaker offers five models of passenger cars - Mazda 2, Mazda 3, CX-3, CX-5 and the MX-5 RF.  

On the light commercial vehicle side, the BT-50 bakkie is the only model in the Japanese automaker's portfolio. 

It's no surprise that the best-selling cars in its stable are SUVs, with the CX-5 and CX-3 selling 448 and 338 units respectively.

The Mazda 3 (C-segment) and 2 (B-segment) were the only other cars to sell in triple digits, with the former selling 277 units and the smaller 2 finding 217 new homes. 

The solitary MX-5 RF found a home in SA and Mazda sold 21 units of its BT-50 bakkie.
