The South African car market continues to feel the effects of a weak Rand, high inflation and low consumer confidence yet thousands of vehicles are still sold locally and exported abroad.
"The demand for new vehicles is likely to remain under pressure in the coming months as the market continues to be affected by numerous constraining factors," reports Naamsa.
Top sellers
The Volkswagen Polo Vivo continues to dominate sales in the passenger car market, racking-up 2478 units in May 2019, followed by the bigger Polo on 1390 units. In third place is the ever-popular Toyota Fortuner on 1319 units, followed by the Hyundai Grandi10 on 738 units.
Gauteng leads the way with 52 957 units sold followed by KwaZulu Natal (19 269) and the Western Cape (14 958).
