The Toyota Hilux may be South Africa’s best-selling vehicle overall but it's not the most affordable bakkie to maintain and repair according to the annual Kinsey Report.

That honour belongs to the Nissan NP200 - the only half-tonne bakkie in our market with a service cost of R2094. To replace all the most common parts on your bakkie, the NP200 will require R49 823 for its total parts basket.

That's a sizable amount, that is until you look at the rest of the list.

The Hilux 2.8 auto double cab has a service cost of R3894, but its parts bin will set you back R79 660. Interestingly, the Hilux 2.4 manual single cab costs R5743 to service, with a parts bin of R73 696. Another favourite, the Ford Ranger, has a hefty servicing cost of R5620 and a parts bin of R100 617.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class is not on our monthly top ten list as Mercedes SA does not release individual sales figures but to have the bakkie serviced will cost you R5607. And its parts bin? A whopping R147 252!

The Nissan Navara is the most expensive bakkie on our list to service, with a cost of R8112, reports Kinsey.
