The Volkswagen Polo Vivo showed no signs of relinquishing its title as South Africa’s favourite passenger car in April, nealry toppling the Toyota Hilux in the process.
The Polo Vivo managed to amass a sales figure of 2350 units; just 61 short of the Hilux’s 2411. Despite narrowly topping the overall log, the Polo Vivo comprehensively trampled the second-place Polo on 1400 units.
And making a well-deserved jump, the Toyota Rav4 slots into third place with 839 units sold.
A tough month
Overall, April has been tough month for all automakers, but the regular contenders in our list all made the cut; bar a few changes. In fourth place is the Toyota Fortuner sold off 816 units, followed by the Ford EcoSport on 742 units.
Toyota’s Etios goes sixth on 719 units, one ahead of the Hyundai Grandi10 on 718 units sold, followed by the Renault Kwid on 472 units.
In ninth place is the Datsun Go, with 453 units sold, just ahead of a new entry, the Volkswagen Tiguan, on 442.
Because of the arrival of the all-new Toyota Corolla, the Corolla sedan (previous generation) and Corolla Quest can’t be counted with it anymore. Henceforth, these three cars will be counted as separate entities.
