SA vehicle sales | Major upturn in events as Hilux, D-Max and Ranger go top of the bakkie log

accreditation

• Toyota Hilux the best-selling bakkie in May 2020

• Oversales are much better than April 2020

• Mahindra Bolero makes the Top 10

The upturn in events brings about a sigh of relief to the local automotive sector. When new vehicle sales could resume under lockdown level 4 - albeit slightly - one had hoped that it would be a better showing than April 2020.

And it was, as more vehicles were sold in May.

Regarding bakkies, the Toyota Hilux again led the charge, even if the overall sales figure is a far cry from what we've come to expect. It sold 796 units last month, followed by the Isuzu D-Max (611 units) and Ford Ranger (538 units).

Further down the list the Volkswagen Amarok secured 67 new signatures, and the Mahindra Bolero 22.
