SA vehicle sales: Luxury SUVs aplenty in January 2019

accreditation

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and Audi Q5 took top honours for large and medium sized luxury SUVs, respectively. And though overall sales were down compared to the same period in 2018, these categories saw respectable numbers the past month.

For large luxury SUVs, the Land Cruiser 200 managed to rack up a sales figure of 136 units. It was followed by the Toyota Prado on 134. In third place, the Range Rover/RR Sport also managed to write down triple digits with 106 units sold.

The Land Rover Discovery soldiers on and found itself in the fourth position on 74 units sold. BMW released individual sales figures for its vehicles - again - and the X5 takes fifth place on 62 units. It remains to be seen whether BMW will continue with this for the duration of the year…

Volvo’s XC90 takes sixth place with 50 units, followed by the Jeep Grand Cherokee on 45 units. The Range Rover Velar slots into eighth place on 35 units, followed closely by the Volkswagen Touareg (31 units).

The Jaguar F-Pace takes the tenth and final spot with 26 units.

Q5 takes no prisoners

Audi’s Q5 whacked the ball out of the park when it sold off a massive 238 units to customers last month. It outsold the BMW X3 (131 units) by a full 107 units. Jaguar’s E-Pace registered 70 units, according to Naamsa, followed by the Volvo XC60 on 66 units.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport managed 28 units in fifth place, followed very closely by its cousin, the Range Rover Evoque, on 27 units. The Audi Q3 also registered 27 units.

Lexus NX found favour with 16 owners, while the Volvo XC40 mustered together a sales figure of 11 units. The Lexus RX rounds out the top ten on seven units.
