SA car sales | You won’t believe how many cars Ferrari sold in January!

accreditation

Selling a handful of vehicles in a single month would not suffice for most automakers, but Ferrari is not any automaker.

The famed Italian manufacturer had a particularly good January after selling 17 units to customers. This number would have had companies like Toyota and Volkswagen laying off people without a moment’s notice, but at Ferrari it’s a call for celebration.

Ferrari prides itself on selling some of the world’s most sought-after vehicles and, given the prices of these cars, you’d expect it to be nothing less than desirable.

Some months will see more cars roll off the showroom floor than others, but Ferrari is resilient in its efforts to keep the momentum going. And the continuous effort does pay off, as evidenced by January 2020.

How it's done

Speaking on this great achievement, Ferrari South Africa emphasised that it managed to sell as many cars as they did because of their product portfolio. Together with this, a strong and strategic marketing plan plays a key role in the sales process.

Ferrari SA says: "Our diversified product range contributes to the success of the overall sales figures in 2019 and 2020. The marketing of our vehicles is strategically planned each year with specific emphasis on customer centric activities."

The automaker further notes that its sales process encourages customers to pay their team of experts a visit and be taken through each phase of the sales process. This allows the customer "to enjoy a holistic experience of the brand."

From a new model perspective, Ferrari South Africa is anticipating the launch of the new F8 Spider in 2020, as well as a new member to the Prancing Horse family, the Ferrari Roma.

January’s top sellers

Ferrari’s best-selling vehicle for January was its new 488 Pista. This model saw an astonishing ten customers taking ownership across South Africa. The 488 Pista’s 3.9-litre engine is the most powerful V8 in Ferrari history, and produces 530kW and 770Nm. 0 - 100km/h is cleared in 2.8 seconds, and 0 - 200km/h in 7.6sec. Top speed? In excess of 340km/h!

Both the Ferrari Portofino and Ferrari 812 sold three units each last month. The Portofino, successor to the California T, sports a 3.9-litre V8 engine that produces 441kW and 760Nm. This convertible has a height of a mere 1318mm and boasts with a 46-54% weight distribution over the front and rear axles. 0 - 100km/h is dispatched in 3.5sec. Oh, did we mention that this engine’s won Engine of the Year for three consecutive years between 2016 and 2018?

The 812 range consists out of two models: the 812 GTS and 812 Superfast - the latter the fastest and most powerful production Ferrari to date! The 6.5-litre V12 engine powering the range is good for 588kW and 718Nm. And the engine’s redline only makes an appearance at 8900rpm!! In the GTS’ case, 0 - 200km/h is cleared in 8.3sec, and top speed is over 340km/h. For the Superfast, 0-100km/h is run takes 2.9sec, and onto a top speed of 340km/h.

The GTC4Lusso may have only sold one model in SA last month, but it is by no means an inferior product. It’s 6.3-litre V12 engine produces 507kW and 697Nm of torque. It runs the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.4sec and will only call a halt to proceedings at 335km/h. The ‘4’ in the name refers to the four seats, meaning that the car can haul four passengers around; albeit if rear legroom is somewhat limited. A second model in the range is the GTC4Lusso T, powered by a 3.9-litre V8 engine that produces 449kW and 760Nm. It has a 0-100km/h time of 3.5sec and a top speed of more than 320km/h.
