Toyota sold the greatest number of vehicles in January 2020, but there were other notable automakers who left their mark last month.
From the East, Suzuki and Haval each sold an incredible number of vehicles to find themselves in among the ten best-selling automakers in SA.
Three strong impressions
In Haval’s case, they sold an impressive 1083 vehicles last month that were, no doubt, aided by the arrival of the new H2. The crept into the top ten to stave off challenges from the likes of Mazda and Honda.
Suzuki, on the other hand, climbed to seventh place after 1632 units were sold. According to Suzuki’s Andre Venter, sales and marketing manager: "Our demand for models such as the Swift, Jimny, and Ertiga has never been stronger, and we are working hard to get models to our dealers on time.
With new models on the horizon, such as the upcoming affordable S-Presso, we believe that our sales will continue to grow."
A third automaker who made their mark last month, albeit with a marginal number, is Ferrari. After selling off 17 units, the automaker can look back on January and close it as ‘successful’. Given the desirability of Ferrari’s and the hefty price tags, 17 units is a huge feat to achieve.
Haval's month
Ever since Haval came to South Africa in 2017, the company has been on an upward trajectory. The products it sent into the market has been good, and its reputation is increasing with every single month. In January, Haval not only had one of its best months to date, but it also broke into the list of ten best-selling automakers in SA - selling the tenth most cars in SA.
It's no small feat, but it shows that the company is dedicated to the South African market and will ensure that its client base continues to grow.
Part of January's success is the launch of the new H2, its compact SUV. THe H2 is the automaker's top-selling product, and acts as entry-point to Haval's SUV range.

Suzuki's month
Another strong automaker in the local market, is Suzuki. The Japanese automaker has been steadily building itself up to reputable levels, so much so that it finds itself among the best-selling automakers in the country. Last month, Suzuki sold the seventh most cars in South Africa, beating rivals such as Mercedes-Benz and Kia.
In January, the Swift was Suzuki's best-selling vehicle, raking in 824 sales. That also placed the Swift as the sixth top-selling passenger car for the month. Other notable results were the Suzuki Jimny on 189 units sold, and Ertiga (159 units).

Ferrari's month
When your as big as Ferrari, selling a select number of vehicles every month would be your main goal. With good reason, because when your most affordable vehicle retails in excess of R5-million, then every sale is reason for celebration. Now imagine you've sold 17 units!
That's exactly what happened at Ferrari in January. The automaker had a spectacular start to the year and sold ten 488 Pistas. Following this car is both the Portofino and 812 supercar. Each sold three units last month.
The GTC4Lusso sold one unit.
