Cape Town - The SA vehicle market shows a positive trend despite the weak economy; 35 316 new cars were sold in October 2017, an improvement of 2594 cars or 7.9% compared to the 32 722 models sold in the same period in 2016.
Overall, out of the total 51 037 vehicles sold, an estimated 38 309 units or 75.1% represented dealer sales, 18.9% represented rental sales, 3.1% industry corporate fleets and 2.9% government car purchases, reports Naamsa.
What about car sales by province?
Lightstone Auto has provided us with a list of passenger car sales by province. Lightstone's data includes overall sales so far in 2017 as well as October 2017. Overall, Gauteng leads the way with 103 830 units sold to date.

Heinrich Coetzee, head of sales and product at Lightstone Auto, said: "Gauteng (as can be expected) is the largest province in terms of sales volume, followed by KZN and the Western Cape, whilst the Northern Cape brings up the rear.
"The provinces don’t move too much in terms of ranking in the respective markets, the only noticeable exception to this is that in the Passenger Market, Limpopo and North West are interchangeable as they both have very similar sales figures."
