Here's where the Hilux doesn't rule the roost - These used single-cab bakkies sold best in April

accreditation

April 2020 was a disaster in terms of new vehicle sales. And while things are looking gloom for the foreseeable future, we can brace ourselves for a few more months of hardship.

One aspect of the South African car market that is always doing well is the used car sphere. Every month, used vehicles often outsell new cars by double the amount. It's a flourishing segment and one that is helping to keep the South African economy ticking over.

It must be noted that the used car market also suffered because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

AutoTrader, one of SA's biggest online car markets, released information on single cab bakkies sold last month. Though we do not have individual sales figures, it still makes for interesting reading.

The Nissan NP200, the 2017 model, was the top-selling single cab bakkie last month, with the average selling price of R142 074. The average mileage was 62 909km.

The now-discontinued Ford Bantam also added its name to the list, albeit in the tenth slot. The average model was the 2008 Bantam, with an average of 219 775km. The average selling price was R71 379.
