Compact cars in SA: Polo remains the leader in its class

Cape Town - Volkswagen’s Polo remains at the top of the list for the best-selling compact car in South Africa.

During August 2017, it sold 2096 units - almost a thousand units more than the second-placed Ford Fiesta.

The Fiesta was the only other vehicle in this segment to have registered a sales-figure of more than a thousand units on 1071.

Compact packages

Kia again made its presence felt with its Rio finding 504 new owners. The Rio’s cousin, the Hyundai i20, managed to register a sales figure of 491 units.

Nissan also made a splash in the local market when its Almera raked in a sales figure of 376 units. Renault’s little Clio came in at sixth place on 268 units; beating the premium challenger: the Audi A3 (223 units).

The Mazda 2 found 203 new owners in eighth place, followed by the Hyundai Accent on 183 units.

The Toyota Yaris completes the top ten with 134 units.
