South Africa’s Matthew Swanepoel and Jordan Pepper have been nominated as the country's representatives at the upcoming Sub-Sahara African selection event for the International Automobile Federation's Young Driver Excellence Academy (YDEA).
They will follow 2013's SA winner Kelvin van der Linde.
Swanepoel and Pepper were among 19 applicants, aged 17 to 23, selected by a panel appointed by Motorsport SA. Swanepoel was the initial candidate selecte; Pepper was chosen when a second place became available.
TWO SA HOPEFULS
MSA's CEO, Adrian Scholtz, a member of the selection panel, said: “The panel was unanimous in its decision that the two would be best-placed to represent South Africa at the selection event.
“We are confident that the maturity, confidence, professionalism and humility demonstrated by both competitors during their interviews, in addition to their unquestionable racing ability, will stand them in good stead to secure an academy place in 2015.”
The training and selection event for the YDEA will be hosted by MSA from September 21-24 2014.
