SA Bike of the Year: 'The riders are the winners'

SA BIKE OF THE YEAR: Although KTM’s 1290 Super Duke (pictured here) is the official 2014 SA Bike of the Year, Wheels24 readers voted unanimously for the BMW’s R1200GS Adventure to claim the title. Image: Wheels24/ DRIES VAN DER WALT

I agree with the Readers' choice but not with the official outcome of the 2014 SA Bike of the Year.

My favourite was the BMW GSA LC, as dual bikes suit my style. The readers choice was 1056 votes to the BMW R1200 GS Adventure with 298 votes for KTM’s 1290 Super Duke. That’s good enough for me.

The GSA LC is an absolutely incredible bike (I have had mine since the release). For it to be beaten by other bikes, the winners must of been really fantastic.

We, the riders, have it very good at the moment.

The bikes are getting better and better, with stronger and stronger challenges to the dual bike crown. I always ask: 'Why did it take more than 33 years to try challenge the BMW GSA?'

Well done to KTM for winning and BMW for second and third.

I also do not believe that the BMW’s managing director is going to get upset and throw his toys out his cot and start writing letters stating and slating that this is unfair and needs to be redone.

Once again the riders are the winners.
