A police spokesperson said: "The vehicle crashed through the wall driving over several occupied pews.

"Vehicle jacks and brute force were used to lift the vehicle to rescue people trapped beneath the Lexus sedan while waiting for medics." Some of the injured treated by area hospitals were listed as seriously hurt.

The driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, said her brakes failed and she lost control of the car.
