SAKHIR, Bahrain - Nico Rosberg, winner of the season-opening Australian GP, returned to the scene of Sunday's (April 6) thrilling 2014 Bahrain GP to post the quickest time in the first of two days of testing at the Sakhir circuit.
Rosberg, who finished second behind Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton in a race rated as the most exciting for years, topped the times, recording a best lap of 1min35.667.
That time was, however, 2.5sec slower than the one he set to claim pole for the 2014 Bahrain GP.
HULKSECOND
Nico Hulkenberg drove his Mercedes-powered Force India car into second in the times, four-tenths behind Rosberg, with Fernando Alonso's Ferrari six-tenths away in third.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo took seventh after completing 91 laps.
Hamilton, winner in Bahrain 2014 and Malaysia 2014, moved up to within 11 points of Rosberg in the Drivers' standings. He will drive for Mercedes on the second day of testing on Wednesday (April 9).
The 2014 championship will now head to Shanghai for the fourth race of the season in China.
