<B>FUNKY RENAULT HEADED FOR SA:</b> The Renault Captur is based on on the same platform as New Clio and could be launched in SA later in 2013.
PARIS, France - Renault's Captur has been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP rating with a score of 80.5% to become the 15th Renault model to secure Euro NCAP’s maximum five-star passive safety rating.
The Captur is based on the same platform as the Clio and though not yet officially on Renault SA's list of launches, we're told it could be launched here at the next Johannesburg auto show in October, 2013.
32 OUT OF 36 POINTS
Renault says: “The Captur’s electronic architecture was designed to ensure that the latest-generation protective systems are triggered even sooner.”
The Captur features two impact detection sensors on each side, one in the front doors and the other in the B-pillars. The model earned a score of 7.9/8 in side-on impacts.
Overall the model obtained 32 points from a possible 36 for adult protection, which is one of the best results yet in the small car segment.
The model makes a great choice for families as it earned 39 points out of a possible 49 for child protection.
Renault says: “The front end of Captur was designed to minimise injury to pedestrians. The bumper has no salient edges, while the lower part of the windscreen, which is traditionally very rigid, was designed to reduce the risk of injury in an impact.
"Meanwhile, the height of the bonnet was raised in order to incorporate a crumple zone between the structure and the uppermost parts of the engine. “
The model earned 22 points out of 36 for pedestrian safety.
