Reader: Classics on safari in Kruger

In December 2013, Skekek productions film-maker, JOHAN VERMEULEN, sent Wheels24 a great gallery and video of classic BMW motorcycles in action.

In July 2014, JOHAN sent Wheels24 superb images and video of classic vehicles on a road trip through the Kruger National Park.

Dawie Wille, a classic car collector from Nelspruit, participates in an annual trip with classic cars to some or other destination in the Lowveld. In 2014 Wille and his friends set off on a relaxing weekend to the Pretoriuskop camp (near Numbi Gate) in South Africa's Kruger Park.

CLASSIC CAR ROAD-TRIP:

I joined him on the trip and created a short video of the experience.

I’m glad I didn’t have to make the decision on which cars to use as Dawie’s hanger is filled with amazing vintage cars.

The three cars on the trip were:

1930 Ford Model A (Owned by Dawie and called “Rosie”)
1946 Chev Pickup (Owned by Dawie and called “Joe”)
1952 Willys Jeep CJ5 (Owned by Jeremy Greeff)

It truly was a great experience to tag along on a game drive in these old cars. The cars definitely turned heads and gave glimpse of what it might have been like to go on safari in the early 1900's.

ROSIE - THE 84-YEAR-OLD FORD

It’s amazing to think that “Rosie”, the Ford Model A, is 84 year old. She didn’t miss a beaton the trip.

On the first afternoon we came across a pack of wild dogs and they were certainly very interested when Rosie pulled up. One dog in particular came quite close to inspect the car.

In terms of elephants… I'm sure some of the older ones must have recollection of some of these classics.
