LONDON, England - A green Daimler luxury car owned and driven by Queen Elizabeth II has been sold at auction for the equivalent of about R650 000.
Auction house Historics said the queen used the vehicle - sometimes chauffeured, sometimes driving herself - from 2001-04 to travel locally from Windsor Castle and to go to and from Buckingham Palace in London. It says the monarch at times drove the car herself, and sometimes was driven in it.
LAMBS-WOOL RUGS
The auction house says the car has several modifications, among them an adapted arm rest with a sliding space designed to hold the queen's handbag as well as lambs-wool rugs.
The car was sold to an unnamed buyer from the county of Surrey, near London, on Saturday (Aug 31).
