Potent 200kW MX-5 unleashed

BRACKLEY, England - Brodie Brittain Racing (BBR), creator of the original turbocharged Mazda MX-5 in 1990, has created its most potent package yet - the Mazda MX-5 GT270.

The car, built on a 2013 specification MK3.5 2.0 Sport Tech Roadster, has a turbocharged engine capable of 200kW.

BBR says: "Combined with advanced electronic upgrades and optional chassis enhancements, the all-round improvement of the Mazda coupe’s dynamics is dramatic, delivering the last word in MX-5 driving excitement for the true performance enthusiast.

"With a strictly limited production run of 100 numbered cars, BBR has created an exclusive MX-5 designed to appeal to enthusiast and collector alike.

The BBR GT270 roadster's 2.0-litre engine has been subject to extensive development by technicians.

0-100KM/H: 4.9 SEC

The BBR GT270 MX-5 produces 200kW/307Nm (82kW/119Nm more than the standard MX-5 two-litre Sport Tech. It’s turbocharged engine and kerb weight of 1190kg enable the roadster to rocket to 100km/h in 4.9sec and reach its top speed of 241km/h.

BBR Director Neil Mckay said “Our objective with the GT270 was to give a factory-style progressive power delivery, with peak power at the top of the engine’s rev range. With careful component selection allied to extensive ECU recalibration, BBR has achieved exceptional power gains at very low turbo boost pressures, thus ensuring maximum efficiency and longevity for GT270 owners.”

Extensive work by BBR’s technical development team in collaboration with calibration specialist EcuTek, sees the British tuning specialist debut a unique suite of Starchip calibration software, which offers “a greater range of functionality and control.”

BBR said: "The software adds launch control, auto throttle blipper on the downshift and a full throttle gearshift."

The new BBR Mazda MX-5 270 is priced at the equivalent of R490 000.
