Porsche tops latest Power list

DETROIT, Michigan - Porsche has come out as the top performer in a US survey of new vehicle quality.

Global market research company JD Power polled more than 83 000 US vehicle owners about problems with their 2013 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership.

AWARD-WINNING

Alongside the Porsche brand, American customers voted the Porsche 911 – which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year – to the topmost place in the “midsize premium sporty car” segment.

The mid-engine Boxster Roadster also came in first in the “Highest Initial Quality - Compact Premium Sports Car” award.

Matthias Muller, president and CEO of Porsche, said: “Porsche stands for sportiness and performance. We are pleased to see that its equally high levels of quality in design, development and production have also been confirmed with these awards.”

The study evaluated a total of 230 vehicle models from 33 automakers, which were first registered between November 2012 and February 2013.

WORST PERFORMERS

Porsche, GMC, Lexus, Infiniti and Chevrolet owners reported the fewest problems. The worst performing brands were Scion, Fiat, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Mini.

The top complaints included faulty voice recognition systems and Bluetooth systems that didn't connect to drivers' phones. Wind noise was also a big issue.

Honda had the top-performing small car and small SUV - the Civic and CR-V. The highest-ranking mid-size car was the Toyota Camry.
