The Porsche Panamera, a rear-wheel-drive sedan-coupe, will rival cars such as the Mercedes CLS and Maserati Quatroporte, when it goes into production in 2007.
This newcomer itself is no secret but originally it was expected that Porsche will tie up with VW to develop the vehicle. Rumours also have it that Porsche could rather turn to MagnaSteyr in Austria for help.
However, Porsche insiders suggest that the company is more than able to build the Panamera single-handedly at its Leipzig plant.
The Panamera will source its SUV sibling's 4.5-liter V8 normally aspirated and turbocharged engines. But the range-topper is to get a "softer" version of the Carrera GT's 5.7-liter V10 uniy.
