Revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2005, the Polo GTI is the hottest version of the Polo yet to reach South Africa.
Although Wheels24 has speculated before that it will come here VW has denied vigorously that it has such plans.
However, we now received proof from reliable insider sources that the Polo GTI will be launched in September. Our sources also says that VW's indicative price for the GTI is R185 000.
Under the Polo GTI's bonnet is a 1.8-litre turbo-charged engine with a power output of 110 kW. It produces a maximum torque of 220 Nm at 1950 r/min which enables this Polo to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.
The Polo GTI is closely based on the appearance of the popular Golf GTI and shares styling cues such as twin exhaust pipes and GTI branded honeycomb grille.
