ALMERIA, Spain - ALMERIA, Spain - The Peugeot 308, recently named European Car of the Year 2014, completes its range with the arrival of the new PureTech 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine good for 97kW.
Peugeot South Africa says the new 308 will only arrive here in 2015 and it is too soon to confirm a model line-up yet.
The automaker claims records for fuel economy is rated at 2.9 litres/100km, covering a distance of and 1810km on a single tank of fuel. The report did not include average speed around the racetrack.
This performance was achieved at the Almeria circuit in Spain, officially witnessed by the Technical Union of Automobiles, Motocycles and Cycles authority.
A Peugeot 308 Hatchback, specified with the new PureTech 1.2-litre e-THP 130 turbo petrol engine with a manual six-speed gearbox, was driven for 32 hours to consume the 51.4-litre contents of its fuel tank.
In so doing, the Peugeot 308 set a fuel economy record for a single tank of fuel, according to the automaker.
NEW BENCHMARK
This performance was achieved with a standard production model so, Peugeot claims, the 308 1.2-litre THP 130 is the benchmark for its sector as the most economical vehicle with a petrol engine.
The new engine has a new compact design, is powerful and highly efficient. Technology includes high-pressure direct injection (200 bar) and a new generation high performance turbocharger - turning at 240 000rprm, a technological breakthrough.
When specified in the new 308 - the most compact and lightest car in its segment - this engine can fully express its dynamism and exceptional fuel economy.
It’s official consumption is 4.6 litres/100km / 107g/km.
The new 308 is available with a choice of five petrol and five diesel engines in various markets.
