Petros: Gauteng hijackings down

2012-08-14 13:07

Vehicle hijackings in Gauteng during 2012 have decreased from 25 to 16 a day, provincial police commissioner Mzwandile Petros said in Johannesburg on Monday. August 14, 2012.

Petros said: "That is a significant reduction and we do not plan to change our crime-fighting strategy in that regard, but improve on it."

He was speaking after meeting national police commissioner Riah Phiyega, who was visiting provinces to learn about the police's strategies to fight crime.

At least 50% of the country's crime happened in Gauteng, Petros said, but added the number could come down further if police introduced "certain things".

"We will be producing our research project next month (September, 2012) that will detail how we plan to reduce that," Petros concluded.

Really?... Probably only liberals and ANC apologists who believe this junk. Let me remind you of how Mzwandile Petros, when he was police commissioner of the Western Cape gave direct orders to falsify a drunken driving docket of ANC former chief whip, Tony Yengeni. Also read here… Shocking report of how the Western Cape police under Commissioner Mzwandile Petros falsified crime and logged rape cases as “enquiries” http://mg.co.za/article/2009-10-23-how-cops-cooked-crime-books And another shocking report on how he falsified murder statistics in South Africa… how a filing cabinet with about a hundred post mortem reports of murders and other unnatural deaths which were not referred to the police for investigation, was discovered at the Salt River mortuary in Cape Town. Again our friend Petros was involved. Petros knew about it for a year and preferred to keep quiet until the lie could not be covered up any longer. Petros at the time was heading a task team that was conducting a countrywide investigation into the validity of crime statistics, particularly with regard to inquest and murder dockets. http://mg.co.za/article/2010-11-05-cloud-over-murder-statistics See how easy it is to bring car hi-jackings down from 25 a day to 16 a day? You just appoint the right man, like Petros. Talk about making a wolf the shepherd.

How do you falsify a stat that is easy to corroborate, insurance companies trends on hijacking, police stats other players ( Netstar, Matrix etc) would need agree somewhat, if the number was doctored, I'd expect a counter response or qualification of the number quoted. Remember some of the syndicates are breaking bread with the murders and rapist..thus it makes sense that the the trend be downward, at some stage

Someone should do the test you suggest. But how to get all the various companies to sit at one table each with their stats?
