LONDON, England - Williams' 2014 British GP bid got off to a horrible start as both its drivers, Formula 1 hopeful Susie Wolf and veteran Felipe Massa retired damaged from the first laps of first practice on Friday.
Susie Wolff, the first female driver in 22 years to take part in a Formula 1 weekend, was forced to retire when her car suffered mechanical failure, apparently after a track "off", causing her to limp off the track.
She was timed on one lap at 1min44.
SESSION HALTED
Wolff, who replaced Williams' regular Valtteri Bottas for practice, made her test debut for the team at Silverstone in 2013.
Massa, heading for his 200th GP, also kerbed, lost control as he hit the tar again and slid very fast and sideways acroos the track, the grass runoff and smashed into the Silverstone wall.
He seemed to be unhurt and walked back to the pits lane. His car took huge damage, halting the session as the wrecked Williams' was removed from the track
