No runts in Jaguar's Simola team

KNYSNA, Western Cape - The Jaguar Simola Hilllclimb is set for Saturday May 17 2014 with a grid full of quick cars.

The main attraction will be the debut in South Africa of the Jaguar F-Type coupe which will go on sale in July 2014. Spectators will also be able to view the XFR-S the XJR in action.

The V8 and V6 versions of the F-Type will be used in the hill-climb - a 364kW V8 or the more agile and lighter 290kW supercharged V6.

Five identical Jaguar XF units are being prepared for a media challenge in which South African motoring journalists will be pitted against each other and the hill, with honour and ego at stake (not to mention a floating trophy and a voucher prize from motorsport gear specialists).

FETTLED TO RACE

Two Jaguars will also be on display at the event. One is an XJR owned by Jaguar Land Rover SA "since birth". It started life as an X350 (the predecessor to the current XJ series) homologation unit but was later used for technical training.

Fettled in-house in recent months for its future role as a club racer by Jaguar's technical team, it’ll make its first appearance in Castrol colours. Adding gravitas to the event will be the brooding presence of an XKR-S GT, a winged, track-ready version of Jaguar’s super coupe, one of only 20 right-hand drive units in existence and the only one in South Africa.
