"The Navara, which is more of an SUV than a traditional four-to-five-seater Double Cab pickup, was built on the strengths of the top-selling Nissan Hardbody Double Cab, offering outstanding power, new levels of load and towing capability, enhanced good looks and superb comfort," says Gerhard Fourie, Nissan's General Manager of Marketing and Product Planning.
"The much-awaited automatic derivatives further complement the Navara range and will meet the needs of the growing band of leisure vehicle buyers who demand SUV comfort and looks with a Double Cab pickup configuration."
The five speed automatic transmission is available for both the 2.5 dCi diesel and 4.0 V6 petrol 4x2 derivatives of the Navara. It is the same as the one fitted in the Nissan Pathfinder, but does not have sequential shift.
It features a unique gear set chosen specifically for use in high torque situations, as well as an advanced torque converter design for improved fuel economy and an advanced power train management programme for improved gear shifting.
While the petrol-engined Navara derivatives offer six speed gearboxes, the automatics have five gears. First and second gear ratios are ideal for towing, making the best use of the excellent torque to be found on the respective Navara derivatives (V6 petrol - 385Nm, 'high' diesel - 403Nm, 'middle' diesel - 365Nm).
The new automatic Navara boasts the same level of specification as the recently launched manual models.
Cruise control is standard on all models, a first for a Double Cab range in South Africa, and there's ABS braking plus EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist).
