Hyundai’s current-generation Elantra is in 2015 entering its fifth year of production though had a facelift facelift received in 2014.
Spy photographers captured images of what will become the sixth-generation of the popular Elantra, spotted undergoing winter testing in Europe.
The new Elantra (known as the Avante in Korea) will make its debut later in 2015 but will first go on sale in Hyundai’s domestic South Korean market early in 2016, before being sold globally.
TONED DOWN DESIGN
Codenamed AD, the 2016 Elantra will borrow head and taillights from the 2014 i20, while its radiator grille and bumper resemble those of the Genesis and Sonata.

It will sport new LEDs along the front bumper though its side profile will remain as the outgoing generation. While the Elantra debuted the automaker’s “Fluidic Precision” design language, the sixth-generation tones down the styling of the past with a hexagonal grille design used by the latest crop of Hyundais launched in 2014.
As for engines, the new Elantra will be offered in both GDI (petrol) and CRDi (turbo diesel) formats, as well as Turbo GDi. A hybrid is also rumoured to follow.
