London, England - How you ever been left stranded on the road due to an empty fuel tank? UK insurance firm, LV Equals, reveals that nearly 900 000 road users are left stranded on the road each year.
The Daily Mail reports that 872 000 Britons ignore the fuel warning light in their vehicles.
The SA department of Energy announced a decrease in the price of all petroleum products from Wednesday (September 2). You might be tempted to drive with a reserve tank to save money. Be careful as you could be left stranded on our roads.
OVERCONFIDENCE TO BLAME?
Data from the insurance firm showed that drivers were overconfident that they could reach their destinations despite the reserve light activating.
Drivers thought they could cover close to 65km but only 50% of respondents actually achieved that distance.
What makes drivers confident they can reach their destinations? It turns out, the indicated range on your vehicles on-board computer might not provide an accurate estimate of kilometres you can travel.
The report noted that "most drivers in Britain were more worried about traffic jams, torrential rain or getting lost, than running out of fuel".
DON'T IGNORE THE FUEL LIGHT
The fuel-tank level is measured by a float that serves as an estimate. The height of the float is measured by a gauge either electronically or through the use of metallic strips and coils.
