NYE horror: 9 killed in KZN crash

KWAZULU - NATAL, South Africa - A crash in Margate has claimed another life, bringing the number of people who died to nine when a minibus taxi and a bakkie collided head-on on December 31 2013, said paramedics.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha reports that eight people died at the scene of the accident on the R61 near Margate, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. Another eight people were seriously hurt.

Some of the injured had been trapped in the wreckage, where paramedics stabilised them while firemen used hydraulic equipment to free the occupants.

They were taken to various hospitals.
